News from the American College of Rheumatology/Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals
The American College of Rheumatology has formed a Musculoskeletal Ultrasound task force which is charged to assess the feasibility of developing certification for use of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in the course of Rheumatology Practice.  Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners are expected to be included along with Rheumatology Physicians in this process.  Stay tuned for updates regarding new developments.  SPAR′s current secretary, Susan Richmond, PA-C, is representing the ARHP in this endeavor. Salary Data
The 2009 Census report for rheumatology PAs has been drafted.  Find out what rheumatology PAs are making for salary, if they are taking call, and what kind of procedures they are doing.

Compare salaries to Internal Medicine PAs across the country.  Compare the mean with the Standard deviation and find out the range of salaries from the national AAPA census.

Recent Advances in Gout Treatment

Target Audience
This program is designed for physician assistants (PAs), nurse practitioners (NPs), physicians (MDs/FPs) and nurses (RNs/LPNs) who care for patients with gout in a clinical, surgical or research setting.  Content is geared to advanced practice professionals.

At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:
1. Diagnose and manage patients with gout.
2. Describe the role that diet plays in gout.
3. Describe appropriate therapy for gout.

New Web-Based CME Program for PAs

The National Coalition for Health Professional Education in Genetics has officially launched its new Web-based continuing medical education program, Genetics in the Physician Assistant's Practice.  The program features a genetics primer, family history exercises, information on genetic tests and links to genetics tools and other resources.  The centerpiece of the program is three case studies that allow the learner to participate in the work-up of patients with realistic, common genetic disorders.  The cases were designed by PAs for PAs.  Up to three hours of continuing medical education are available to PAs upon completing the post-tests.  Visit the CME program at www.nchpeg.org/pa.
